Fall is one of the best times of the year in Texas. With football back in full swing, temperatures beginning to cool off, and Halloween just around the corner, there’s no shortage of exciting things happening. Our team at Classic Toyota created this guide about fall fun in Tyler, Texas, to help you discover upcoming events and other fun activities to try in the area.

Texas Rose Festival

The Texas Rose Festivalis a three-day event celebrating Tyler’s rich history and important role in rose production in the United States, and Classic Toyota is proud to be a sponsor of this iconic event. Nicknamed as the “Rose Capital of America,” Tyler is home to the United States’ largest rose garden, and seven companies throughout the area that are responsible for producing an estimated 75% of all roses in the country.

The festival includes a variety of special events, such as the Ribbon Cutting and Rose Presentation, the Rose Parade, the Queen’s Tea, and the Queen’s Coronation. Other events during the festival include special luncheons, open houses, rose displays, a movie night in the park, and an arts and crafts fair. While some events are free to attend, others may require purchasing tickets in advance. The festival brochureexplains the details of each event and the entrance fee (if there is one).

The Queen’s Coronation is often the highlight of the event, and it’s an impressive theatrical production featuring gowns and a story that follows the festival’s annual theme. The theme this year is Empires of Enchantment. If you want to see gowns from previous festivals, consider including a visit to the Tyler Rose Museumin your plans.

The Texas Rose Festival will be held October 13-15, 2022. Many events will be at the Rose Garden Center at 420 Rose Park Dr., but be sure to refer to the brochure for exact event locations throughout the city. Tickets for events go on sale in September, and you can purchase them through the Texas Rose Festival website.

East Texas State Fair

The East Texas State Fairreturns this fall for another year of fun for the whole family. The goal of the event is to support educational and charitable causes through its operations, which celebrate community service, family, and agricultural heritage. This week-long festivalincludes a variety of entertainment options, creative exhibits, classic fair treats, and carnival games and rides. One of the entertainment highlights this year is the Flying Jetpack Water Circus, which is a water stunt show presented by the Nock family.

The East Texas State Fair will be held September 23-October 2, 2022, but hours of operationmay vary each day. The fair takes place near CHRISTUS Trinity Mother Frances Rose Stadium at 2112 W. Front Street. Fair admission is free for children ages 6 and younger, $6 for children ages 6 to 12 years old, and $10 for guests ages 12 and older, and additional fees may apply for carnival activities. Purchasing ticketsin advance may help you save time and money, and they’re available now.

Edom Art Festival

The Edom Art Festivalcelebrates its 50th anniversary this year. Local artist Doug Brown began the festival in 1972 after he relocated to the area and invited other artists to participate. The festival continues to grow each year and serves as a hub for artists of all styles to showcase their work. The 2022 lineup of artistsincludes those with mediums like ceramics, demonstration, fiber, glass, jewelry, metal, mixed, painting, sculpture, wood, and more.

The festival has plenty for the whole family to enjoy, such as delicious food from local vendors and food trucks. There’s a dedicated area for kids to express themselves through making their own creations, and they can take them home or donate them to a special festival gallery. Adults may enjoy retreating to the shade of the Wine Garden to listen to live acoustic music and browse the selection from local wineries.

The Edom Art Festival is free to attend, and most artists have pieces available for purchase. The festival runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on October 8 and 9, 2022. It’s located approximately half an hour from Tyler, in the heart of Edom, specifically near the intersection of FM279 and FM314. Free parking is available, or you can pay to park at the Edom United Methodist Church as a fundraiser.

Countryfest

Countryfestis an annual one-day festival presented by the Lindale Area Chamber of Commerce (LACC). It’s a perfect option for a day of family fun, and the LACC and its sponsors provide all the activities for kids for free. These include a petting zoo, pony rides, carnival games, laser tag, art projects, and inflatables. Other activities during the festival include live entertainment, karaoke for both adults and kids, arts and crafts booths, and local food vendors.

Countryfest is on Saturday, October 8, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. It’s located at Picker’s Pavilion by the Cannery, which is in downtown Lindale at 205 E. North St., and approximately 20 minutes from Tyler. For more information, check out the Facebook event, which has regular updates from the LACC.

If you’re looking for an active way to start your day, consider participating in the Harvest Hustle 5Kbefore attending Countryfest. This race, which the LACC also presents, starts at 8:30 a.m. at Picker’s Pavilion. It’s a charitable race to benefit local organizations like the David Powell Food Pantry, Lindale Volunteer Fire Department, Lillie Russell Memorial Library, and Lindale ISD Education Foundation.
