Toyota’s popular RAV4 outperforms its rivals in the compact SUV segment. With its rugged good looks, reasonable pricing, and the latest in-vehicle technology, it’s easy to see why. If you’re searching for a reliable SUV capable of handling the various road and weather conditions we experience in Tyler, Texas, the RAV4 should be at the top of your list.

You might find sorting through the RAV4’s different trim levels and option packages challenging. To make it easier, read below as our SUV experts at Classic Toyota review the RAV4 by trim level to help you decide which model best fits your lifestyle.

Trim Levels and Pricing

Toyota makes the RAV4 in six gas-powered trims. Hybrid and plug-in hybrid variants are also available, but we’ll review those separately. Here’s a breakdown of the trim levels and pricing:

Trim Level MSRP
2023 Toyota RAV4 LE $28,275
2023 Toyota RAV4 XLE $29,785
2023 Toyota RAV4 XLE Premium $32,675
2023 Toyota RAV4 Adventure $34,470
2023 Toyota RAV4 TRD Off-Road $37,895
2023 Toyota RAV4 Limited $36,580

The competitive pricing of the RAV4 and its six trim levels offer broad appeal. Toyota’s LE, XLE, and XLE Premium models have the fit and finish that stands out around town. But the Adventure and TRD Off-Road trims can help you venture off the beaten path.

The base model RAV4 LE has crisp lines, sharp angles, and color-keyed trim with chrome accents, giving it a bold exterior style as it rolls on 17-inch wheels. LED projector headlights, daytime running lights, and a signature hexagon grille deliver a challenging stare. The RAV4 LE’s dual chrome-tipped exhaust, LED taillights, and roof-mounted spoiler finish the rear fascia with style.

Inside the LE, premium cloth seats fit five people. The 60/40 split-folding back seat allows for multiple cargo configurations. The in-vehicle technology runs on an 8-inch touch screen. Systems such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come preloaded for wireless operations, or you can plug in through three USB ports. A remote keyless entry system comes standard.

The RAV4 LE has a capable front-wheel-drive (FWD) system. But Toyota offers all-wheel drive (AWD) on every model. The independent MacPherson strut front suspension with a stabilizer bar and the multi-link rear suspension delivers exceptional balance and agility.

Moving to the RAV4 XLE trim, you’ll find all the features of the LE plus some new items. The exterior adds 17-inch alloy wheels, heated outside mirrors, and low-profile roof rails. You can upgrade to a moonroof and height-adjustable rear liftgate as part of an optional package.

Toyota upgrades the cloth seats to an eight-way power-operated driver’s seat with lumbar support. You can add heated front seats and a heated, leather-wrapped steering wheel. The XLE now has five USB ports.

XLE Premium

The RAV4 XLE Premium brings upscale exterior style and function with features such as 19-inch multi-spoke Super Chrome alloy wheels and LED fog lights. And the previously optional moonroof and adjustable power liftgate are standard.

The cabin elevates, too, with Toyota’s SofTex upholstery that’s as beautiful as it is durable. Optional interior equipment includes a Qi-compatible wireless charging station, heated front seats, a digital rearview mirror with HomeLink, and a heated, leather-wrapped steering wheel.

You can upgrade to a 10.5-inch multimedia interface to operate the infotainment system. An optional 11-speaker JBL audio system includes a subwoofer and amplifier that turns your RAV4 into a mobile concert as you cruise around Tyler.

Toyota adds more capable equipment in the RAV4 Adventure, such as 19-inch alloy wheels wrapped in all-season mud and snow-rated tires. The moonroof and liftgate revert to optional equipment, but you can also add a two-tone exterior.

The Adventure trim has oversized flared fenders, active grille shutters, aerodynamic underbody panels with vortex generators, front and rear wheel spats, an integrated rear spoiler, and exclusive badges.

SofTex-trimmed seats add trim-exclusive orange accent stitching on the dash, doors, seats, and embossed inserts.

TRD Off-Road

Nobody does off-road better than the Toyota Racing Division. So when you purchase an RAV4 TRD Off-Road model, you know it’s ready for just about anything. Exterior equipment includes matte-black 18-inch TRD flow-formed alloy wheels with aggressive all-terrain tires.

The TRD Off-Road has trim-exclusive flared fenders, red-painted shock absorbers, grille shutters, vortex generators, spats, and a spoiler. It also has TRD Off-Road badging, a TRD-stamped skid plate, a TRD-tuned suspension system, and unique raised roof rails.

The moonroof and liftgate come standard on the TRD Off-Road trim. Inside, you can opt for heated and ventilated front seats. Other optional features include a heated leather-wrapped steering wheel, Qi-compatible wireless charging pad, digital rearview mirror, and customizable 12.3-inch multi-information display.

Toyota’s top-of-the-range Limited model comes with all the premium features you crave. Limited models roll on 19-inch alloy wheels and feature integrated fog lights, dual chrome-tipped exhaust ports, and a power moonroof.

Plus, you can access top-tier options, like the panoramic glass roof with a power moonroof, heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear outboard seats, and wireless charging.

Adventure and TRD Off-Road models come standard with AWD. All other models start with FWD with an option to upgrade. But every RAV4 comes with Toyota’s 2.5-liter inline four-cylinder engine that pairs with an eight-speed automatic transmission. This powertrain produces 203 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque.

Selectable drive modes tune the throttle, steering, and suspension to match your driving conditions. FWD models can toggle between Eco, Sport, Trail, and Normal modes. AWD versions use a traction management system incorporating modes for mud and sand, rock and dirt, snow, and downhill assist control.

Toyota Safety Sense 2.5

Toyota equips every RAV4 with its Safety Sense 2.5 driver assist suite. The suite offers an array of technologies that use radar, cameras, and optical sensors to scan around your RAV4 for potential hazards. Some systems, such as the pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, can provide additional brake support to assist you in an emergency. Others, such as the lane departure alert with steering assist, use subtle steering input to help you stay in your lane.
